The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has deployed military personnel and assets to the Middle East as part of ongoing efforts to support coalition operations and contribute to regional security amid rising tensions in the Gulf.

Elements of the Australian Army, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), and Royal Australian Navy (RAN), working alongside partner nations to enhance stability, support humanitarian missions, and uphold freedom of navigation in strategically important waters.
ADF Personnel and Roles
According to Defence Minister Richard Marles, Australian forces have been assigned to a range of roles, including:
Logistical and support operations
Force protection duties
Maritime security patrols
Air operations coordination
The personnel are operating under multinational command structures, with bases and staging points in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other coalition hubs across the region.
Minister Marles confirmed that all deployed Australian personnel are safe and remain in close coordination with allied forces in the region.
The deployment follows a series of escalatory incidents in the Middle East, including missile and drone strikes by Iranian forces on military installations and air bases, and subsequent counter operations by the United States and allied partners.
Australia has emphasised that its participation supports allied efforts to deter further conflict and protect international shipping lanes, which are critical for global trade and energy supplies.
Australia remains committed to collective security and the rules-based international order Marles said. “Our forces are deployed to support peace, stability and the safety of our people and partners in the region.
Australian Presence in the Gulf
Over recent years, Australia’s military presence in the Middle East has included logistics hubs, airlift support, surveillance operations, and training missions with partner nations.
Deployed assets have contributed to stabilisation efforts and joint operations, particularly in areas that intersect with broader international security interests.
The Department of Defence has reassured the Australian public that force protection measures are in place to safeguard personnel amid elevated security risks.
The ADF continues to monitor developments closely and will adjust force posture as necessary.
