Multiple European nations have begun deploying troops and military assets to Greenland following the official launch of Operation Arctic Endurance, announced by the Danish government earlier this week.

According to Danish authorities, the operation involves the deployment of multinational forces to Greenland to strengthen regional security and preparedness in the Arctic.

As of 15 January 2026, countries participating in the operation include France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

The announcement comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions surrounding Greenland. Earlier this week, a meeting was held between representatives of Denmark and the United States to discuss the future security and governance of the territory. No formal agreement was reached during the talks.

Following the meeting, U.S. President Donald J. Trump posted a statement on Truth Social claiming that the United States would “take Greenland no matter the cost,” further escalating international concern over the region’s stability.

European officials have emphasized that the troop deployments are defensive in nature, stating that the goal of Operation Arctic Endurance is not to provoke conflict but to ensure readiness in response to any potential security developments in the Arctic.

In recent days, several participating nations have also deployed military equipment to the region. France has reportedly positioned nuclear-powered submarines, while Germany has deployed frigates, alongside the arrival of ground forces from multiple countries.

The Arctic region has grown increasingly strategic due to its geographic location, emerging shipping routes, and access to natural resources. Operation Arctic Endurance marks one of the largest coordinated European military presences in Greenland in recent years.
