A fighter jet operated by the Turkish Air Force has crashed during a training mission, with reports indicating the pilot was killed in the incident.

The aircraft, identified as an F-16 Fighting Falcon, went down during what officials described as a routine sortie.

Emergency response teams were dispatched to the crash site shortly after the aircraft lost contact.

Local media and defence sources have reported that the pilot did not survive the crash, though authorities are expected to release a formal statement confirming details and the pilot’s identity after notifying next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with early inquiries expected to examine potential technical issues, weather conditions, and operational factors.

Turkey operates one of the largest fleets of F-16 fighter jets globally, and while incidents are uncommon, crashes typically trigger comprehensive technical and safety reviews.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
